About the Purple Heart
The Purple Heart medal is a U.S. military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those who have been wounded or killed while serving within the U.S. military. Formally designated as the "Badge of Military Merit" established by George Washington, the Purple Heart is the oldest symbol and award that is still give to members of the U.S. military.
Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH)
The organization now known as the "Military Order of the Purple Heart" was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration. Composed exclusively of Purple Heart recipients, it is the only veteran's service organization comprised strictly of "combat" veterans. The Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation (MOPHSF)
The MOPHSF without stock and not for profit, was Incorporated in the State of Wisconsin in 1957 and qualifies with the IRS as an organization exempt from income tax under I.R.C. Section 501 (c)(4) on February 26, 1959. The purpose of the MOPHSF is to raise funds for service, welfare, and rehabilitation work in connection with the members of the MOPH.
