Can I set my V-Mail account up to work with Outlook?

Yes, Vmail is compatible with Outlook for most students.

  1. Open Outlook 2003, 2007, or Outlook Express.
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Select Accounts
  4. Set up a New Account
  5. The following is the information needed to set up your account:

 

    • Your email address:    (example:  wxyz@myvbtc.org)
    • Your User Name         (same username as used in Student Center)
    • Your Password           (same password as used in Student Center)
    • Type of Account:        IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: mail.myvbtc.org
    • Outgoing mail server: mail.myvbtc.org

 

  1. After your account is created, you need to go back into the account settings and change the following items:

 

    • Check the box that states My server requires authentication
    • Check the box that states This server requires a secure connection.  On Outlook Express select SSL, Outlook 2003 or 2007 select TLS or Auto.

 

7.   You will still be unable to send outgoing mail until you set up a TLS/SSL cert.  To obtain a VBTC cert., please visit submit a tech support ticket.  Only those in the United States can obtain this cert.  All others can still utilize V-Mail in Outlook by setting their ISP SMTP server as default.
